Memorial Day Weekend

Well, the waters still haven't receded on Lake Ouachita but the hordes are descending on the lake anyway. News about the closed campgrounds has not been well circulated outside the state so the Texans have continued to pour in and camping is scarce much to their chagrin. Denby is still open but most of the other sites are closed due to the high water. Our business will be hurt some but not as much as we thought earlier. We just hope that the water will be back to normal in another week or so because we don't want the whole summer to be off.
Got up early and got some walking in. It's another beautiful day...I love it when the mornings are cool and it warms up slowly. Some rain in the forecast but doesn't look like it's coming...thank goodness. Hope it holds off until the middle of next week.
Worked at the store last night when I got in from Texarkana. Business was okay but nothing like it should have been. Mike and Dottie came up for a visit. Dottie and I nagged Gardner about building his house. I hope he decides to start it soon.
Went to see Margaret in Texarkana yesterday. It was great to see her and I hope she will come up soon. Met her new husband Bob. He was very cordial and treated us to lunch at Bryce's. I had to be content with no taste of their famous pies...but the vegetables were divine...especially the turnip greens. Margaret's new place is lovely...a townhouse and Bob's work is next door. They have a beautiful dog...not sure what kind...but he is huge and very cute. We did a little flea marketing after lunch and I found a set of bar tools for Joy's wetbar...I think she will like them. We also went by the Presbyterian Church to see Susan who used to be the pastor in Hot Springs. She made coffee and we chatted with her and toured the church which was built in 1904. The downtown area of Texarkana has been in poor shape for years but the old train station is still one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen. Amtrack still uses it and it's just majestic. Writing of Texarkana reminds me that Kathy Lease called me the other day. She still lives there but is coming to Hot Springs next week. We plan to meet for a visit. She says she's retiring at the end of the year but I bet she will still work part time like the rest of us workaholics...just can't give it up completely. When she finished up as superintendent of Texarkana schools, she began teaching for A&M Texarkana. I think she's enjoyed it but is ready for a break.
I missed the retired teacher lunch yesterday to go see Margaret but will catch back up at the next lunch date. Julia emailed me that the lunch was fun and I was missed.
I could sit out here enjoying the flowers and birds but need to get dressed and head to down to run errands. The cows have stopped bellowing so Bill must have found them. He and BA are hosting the Crystal Memorial Day gathering at their home on Sunday. He's going to fry fish and cook barbeque...everyone else is going to bring a side dish. Should be great fun.
I'm going to have to go in the house now...I am out of bird seed and a titmouse is fussing at me...getting closer and closer...it's a little scary.
