Slept the sleep of the very tired last night...long day but lots of fun. Started out the morning with some tea at Joy's on her new porch table. The set was really a find. It's just the right whimisical note for her old farmhouse porch. There's nothing better than sitting on her porch in the early morning and watching the sun rise....unless it's sitting on the other side in the porch swing in the late evening when the sun sets. The person who built her old farmhouse in 1898 knew how to lay it out for maximum good living. Joy had a busy day getting out reports but we met for lunch when I went into town. I hoped to catch Golden at home to let Joy see her house. Golden has such a beautifully decorated place and Joy is looking for ideas as she works on her house. Alas, she was out but had left my fleamarket finds on her front porch. After running errands, I came home and went by the store to see if they were busy. They were but Gardner also had Caleb because he was sick and couldn't go to daycare. I brought him home and spoiled him unmercifully with graham crackers and milk...and lots of playtime. When Roxi came in from work, she picked him up and I went up to the store. It was the meeting place for all who were coming in for Memorial Day weekend. I got to visit with Jo's daughter Mary whose youngest son graduated last night. They came by and picked up something to celebrate. Hard to believe that I taught her so many years ago. The biggest surprise of the evening was a visit from Chris Bauer who had come in from South Carolina. It was such a pleasure to see him. He got his Masters at Clemson and stayed for a job he couldn't pass up. He's all grown up now and such a joy. He also had been able to visit with my nephew Tracy in Virginia when he went up to see his brother Brian. I'm so glad that they were able to get together. It's really like the next generation has taken over and it's neat to watch them lead such interesting lives. The store was busy and looks like the general store was also. We are hoping that the cafe will open quickly and make the place look like it used to look in the old days. Although the water is still up, the Corp has opened part of the campgrounds and expanded the picnic areas to the overflow. Lots of people were out enjoying the perfect weather. It rained some last night but the sun is out this morning and I hope it will be another pretty day. We have rain in the forecast but maybe it will hold off until the evening. Henry, Sallycat, and I walked about very early and checked out the baby deer in the field. Thank goodness the baby bunnies are old enough to hide now. Henry has made a serious dent in the population. I checked out the daylilies and other garden beds...don't think I need to water at all so that's great. Coffee and breakfast on the deck while the woodpecker fed completed this morning and I'm ready to meet the day.
